illegal immigrants...driving and education

OK, I'm pretty sure this post is not going to be well received among a few of my readers. But hey, what can I say, we can't always agree on everything. I am posting two links to some articles about allowing illegal immigrants to get special drivers licenses here in the state and another one to allow them to apply at local colleges as resident students as long as they have graduated from a local high school. Now here is where I may angervate (yes that is a word in my dictionary, I'm sure Webster just missed it) a few people. I am all for BOTH of them. Yes I am. If we are going to get illegal immigrants this far north (which we have) I want to make dayem sure they can drive well, and get an education.

Do I actually know some illegals to be saying something such as this? Yes I do. Good friends actually. And guess what folks........They Pay Taxes, just like everyone else. And they will never see a red cent of it back. They DO NOT get free health care, they pay insurance premiums like everyone else, and they can even get a mortgage to Purchase Houses. Imagine that!!

Now if you have issues with this, too bad. Adjust.

The first article about schooling can be found here. The second article about drivers licensing can be found here.

Wis. panel backs creation of domestic partnerships

This article pi$$es me off on so many levels. But I'll take it one point at a time.

1. In 2006, we the people of Wisconsin, approved a constitutional amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman and outlawing anything "substantially similar" for gay couples.
By nearly 60%.
(So now you are going to go against what the majority wants. OK typical politics)

2. Would allow couples who register with their county register of deeds to jointly own property, inherit each other's assets and visit each other in the hospital, among other things
(register with the register of deeds? Are you a piece of property now, or what? You can already jointly own property, put someone in your will to inherit and visit each other in the hospital without some law giving you the right to do so!(idiots))

3.One study has estimated between 1,400 and 5,000 same-sex couples in Wisconsin would sign up for the registry in the first year. (that is a mighty big point spread folks. Especially out of the estimated 14,000 gay/lesbian couples in this state.) (So we should override the almost 60% of those who took the time to go out and VOTE IT DOWN, to pander to the possibly 30% who MIGHT register. That is up to 30% of 14,000, people, NOT 30% of the state's voters)

4.Partners would not have to testify against each other in court.
(Sounds more like a "married" couple to me already)

5.The relationships could be ended with a notice of termination. (This is the one that really blew my mind folks! If you want to end the relationship you just send a notice. Divorce isn't that easy, nor is it that CHEAP! You want the benefits of a married couple, without the legal hassles. I THINK NOT!!!)

You want the same rights as married couples??? Then by God, grow a set of balls, and fight for the whole dayem package! Don't you dare try and shove this piece meal down my throat, picking and choosing only the good parts and leaving the rest behind.

The whole P.O.S. article can be choked on here.

friday dinner

Tonight on the menu, we have garden fresh green beans, mac and cheese, and pork steaks liberally coated in zatarains fish fry seasoning. Yeah i know, pork isn't fish but that stuff is the cat's meow on just about any meat out there.

It's the weekend

It is officially the start of the weekend. Well for me anyhow. The last couple of days sucked weather wise. We have had several inches of rain. The front yard where I play fetch with the dogs is a partial swamp right now. Yesterday, after I got home from work we played fetch, in the rain. (fun) Today it was warm and the sun was shining . Although the yard is still a mess, it was a blast. The pup was pretty much body surfing for some of the throws. And he didn't even slide into the big maple tree once. I was impressed.
Tomorrow I plan on sleeping late. (at least 8) Then play catch up on laundry, work on organizing my music list some more (moving in on 12,000 songs), get new tires put on the jeep, then see what other trouble I can get into the rest of the weekend. (legally that is, shame on those of you who thought otherwise)

signs of spring

(click to enlarge any of the pics)

These are just a few signs of spring around our place. The air is scented with lilacs and apple blossoms. I LOVE it.

driving laws

Do they suspend all laws dealing with driving on a holiday weekend? The primary one being the freaking Speed Limit??? I was on my way home from the store this afternoon, and every other dayem car was trying to pass me. I'll admit, I am one of those slow drivers, you know the kind that rarely goes over the speed limit? I use my blinkers and wear a seat belt too. Every time I checked my rear view mirror some fool was playing leapfrog. The road I was on has a lot of no passing zones, so during those few opportunities people have, they floor it, safe or not. In some cases they don't even want to wait for the dotted yellow line, and try passing in a no passing zone. Just because it is a holiday does NOT mean your brain has to go to sleep, or take a vacation. For God sake people payyyyy attention!

Oconto County Homicides

In the last week there has been a double homicide, and what at first appeared to be a fire related death, but is now being investigated as a homicide also, in Oconto County. Now to my copper friends out there, you all know I have nothing but the utmost respect for the law. But, in this case, I really hate to say it, the criminals picked the right county. Oconto County is notorious for being the place to literally get away with murder. It's been that way for years and years. One happened less then 3 miles from here years ago, and to this day, no one has ever been convicted for it. (although pretty much every one in the area knows who did it, without evidence it means nothing) Now I realize it's not a cake walk trying to find enough evidence to bring someone to trial, let alone get a conviction. And it's definitely not a job I would want to do. But if they don't ever arrest someone in either of these crimes, I will not be surprised.

highway robbery

We were going to have bbqed ribs this evening. Son had them cooking, so when I got home all I had to do was sauce them and make the side dishes. Welllllll guess what? We were out of bbq sauce :| So my daughter heads off to the gas station to pick up a couple bottles for me. It's only 2 items how bad can it be? Besides it's only 1.5 miles to the gas station, but eight miles to the nearest grocery store. So she comes back and tells me how much they were. $4.69/bottle! For a stinking little bottle of bbq sauce. Dayemmmmmmm

Tools and their uses

A friend in chat posted some of these and gave me the link to the rest. I thought some of you would find them extremely funny.

DRILL PRESS: A tall upright machine useful for suddenly snatching flat metal bar stock out of your hands so that it smacks you in the chest and flings your beer across the room, denting the freshly-painted project which you had carefully set in the corner where nothing could get to it.

WIRE WHEEL: Cleans paint off bolts and then throws them somewhere under the workbench with the speed of light. Also removes fingerprints and hard-earned calluses from fingers in about the time it takes you to say, 'Oh SH-- '

ELECTRIC HAND DRILL: Normally used for spinning pop rivets in their holes until you die of old age.

SKILL SAW: A portable cutting tool used to make studs too short.

PLIERS: Used to round off bolt heads. Sometimes used in the creation of blood-blisters.

BELT SANDER: An electric sanding tool commonly used to convert minor touch-up jobs into major refinishing jobs.

HACKSAW: One of a family of cutting tools built on the Ouija board principle. It transforms human energy into a crooked, unpredictable motion, and the more you attempt to influence its course, the more dismal your future becomes.

VISE-GRIPS: Generally used after pliers to completely round off bolt heads. If nothing else is available, they can also be used to transfer intense welding heat to the palm of your hand.

OXYACETYLENE TORCH: Used almost entirely for lighting various flammable objects in your shop on fire. Also handy for igniting the grease inside the wheel hub out of which you want to remove a bearing race.

TABLE SAW: A large stationary power tool commonly used to launch wood projectiles for testing wall integrity.

HYDRAULIC FLOOR JACK: Used for lowering an automobile to the ground after you have installed your new brake shoes, trapping the jack handle firmly under the bumper.

BAND SAW: A large stationary power saw primarily used by most shops to cut good aluminum sheet into smaller pieces that more easily fit into the trash can after you cut on the inside of the line instead of the outside edge.

TWO-TON ENGINE HOIST: A tool for testing the maximum tensile strength of everything you forgot to disconnect.

Friday

Looks like we might have a decent day or two this weekend, but if the weatherman is correct, next weekend may be even nicer. They are calling for high 70's by Thursday. I can NOT wait.

It was an interesting week at work, no, I didn't hear crickets this time. Just last minute stuff the boss "forgot" too add to the schedule, that had to be done before we left. I was in my usual place on the grinder, so I had to opportunity to watch the hilarity of everyone scrambling like little busy bees. Nice change. Usually by 1:00p.m. Thursday most everyone is on autopilot for the weekend. This time, I was way ahead on material, so I took it easy the whole day. If the boss had come back and checked I'm sure she would have moved me to another area, instead I spent the day looking busy doing nothing much. I only ground up 1600 pounds of scrap. (slacking I know) The normal rate for a day is between 2000-2300 pounds.
Enjoy the weekend everyone.

Geske sentenced to 80 years

About freaking time! I wrote about this drunk driver who totaled a car beyond recognition and killed two area teenagers, while driving in excess of 80 mph. I am glad to see justice is finally being served. The families of those kids (young adults) will never get them back, but at least this is one person who won't be killing anyone else.

The whole sentence can be found here.

my kind of music

105.7 WAPL. This is probably my all time favorite radio station of all time. Classic rock with deejays that are as nuts, if not more so, than I am :D Usually I catch the afternoon show with Joe and John on my way home from work. The newscaster they have on has a "you can't make it up" file that is just hilarious. If you love classic rock, drop by and click on the listen live button.

Edgar Allan Poe quote

Alone

Edgar Allan Poe

From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were -- I have not seen
As others saw -- I could not bring
My passions from a common spring --

I started yet another four day weekend today :D (some of us work so hard we only need to show up three days some weeks) nahhh, just kidding. I like to pick my vacations so I end up getting long weekends. This weekend I got lucky, the weather is suppose to be gorgeoussssss. Have plans for dinner out tonight with a group from work, then maybe a little spring cleaning tomorrow.

driving rant

One thing I really hate is people who tailgate. Driving way too close for my comfort. On my way home from town today, I had one such a driver following me. The speed limit in town is 35, which I was doing. The car behind me, a little blue compact, was so close all I could see was the top quarter of their windshield and the top of the car. Normally I can see the whole vehicle. I figured ok, this is uncomfortable, but not too god awfully bad, we're slow enough the damage would be minimum if I had to stop quickly. So out to the highway we go. Speed limit here is 55. As i sped up to hit the limit that same dayem little blue car was right on my bumper keeping pace. like it was attached to my jeep with some unseen tractor beam from star trek. If I let off on the gas, we were close enough that she would have hit me before she ever got her foot off her own gas pedal. Mumbles under my breath about idiot drivers.......
