Is Your Baby Racist?

The latest headline from Newsweek magazine. I was floored when I saw the title. Like we don't have enough people screaming about this, now they claim your baby judges people on the color of their skin as early as 6 months old. Don't we, as a collective society, have more than enough to deal with right now, than to worry about how an infant judges someone???? Like how the government is trampling the Constitution of the United States. Or how a majority of politicians are more corrupt then the criminals sitting in prison right now? Or how about that national healthcare bill they are trying to shove down our throats. Or maybe that bailout of billions upon billions of dollars that was suppose to some how rejuvenate the now crippled economy. Nahhhhhhhhhh, let's worry about how 6 month old babies relate to someone. That is so much more important.

Stanford requests jail transfer; cites hot, crowded, windowless cell

HOUSTON— Texas billionaire R. Allen Stanford has filed a motion to move to a different jail, citing “oppressive” conditions at the Joe Corley Detention Facility.
(Oh no, you poor, poor thing)

Through DeGuerin, Stanford claims that for at least a week, his jail has had no air conditioning.
(Many, many homes in the Unites States don't have a/c, why the heck should a jail???)

According to the motion, there are no windows in the cell, and the conditions are intolerable.
(It's a jail for God sake!! And you obviously did something BAD to end up there )

Stanford is being held without bond while awaiting trial on charges that he swindled investors out of $7 billion.

TV pitchman Billy Mays has died

Billy Mays, best known for his high-energy infomercials, has died at the age of 50. He may have been one of the most known faces in infomercials out there. And he and another pitchman had just started their own tv show. Full story can be found here.

It just goes to show you, you can go at any time. All you have to do is read or watch the news lately. Maybe it is just me, maybe it isn't. But between the motor vehicle deaths, the increasing rate of homicides, drug related deaths, and all the other "accidental" deaths, there seems to be a whole lot more people dying lately. Maybe the news is just putting more emphasis on them than they usually do. It just appears to me to be more than normal.

Hug your family, call your friends. Make the most of every single day you have on this piece of rock. You may not have tomorrow.

Sorry folks, but I find it extremely hilarious. When I saw the poster of presidents I darn near choked on my soda. Maybe that makes me a bad person. I prefer to think I just have a dry sense of humor.

And yet more senseless deaths, with a strong possibility of alcohol playing in to it. How many more will have to die needlessly?? If you are traveling a four lane highway, and traffic is coming directly at you, YOU ARE GOING THE WRONG WAY!!!!!

That is exactly what I got out of his speech today. Blah blah blah. Yes, when he has a speech written out for him, that all he has to do is read, he does very well.
When it came to the question and answer segment of the meeting........not so much. In fact, in some parts he sputtered worse then a car running out of gas. Forget coherent clear thoughts. It really does make me glad I didn't bother going. Leader or not. He sounded like a kid trying to give his first oral presentation and not doing a very good job of it. I finally gave up trying to listen, because it was making my teeth hurt. I'm not sure how much of the q&a they will have around the net, but if you get a chance to listen, let me know how long you held out, before saying enough.

Well it looks like the big guy himself, Mr. President, will be gracing our fair city with his presence on Thursday. I thought about trying to get tickets, but then I realized, it wasn't worth what I would have to shell out in bond money afterward. They are unclear as to what President O will be speaking about, although health care has been mentioned. Either way, they are going to stream the meeting live (if they get White House approval) on www.wfrv.com . So instead of taking the chance of marring my purrrrrrfectly clean record, I will just watch it online.

I just happen to have Thursday off this week. Yet another four day weekend. Don't you just love them :D
(and Mother Nature, if you are listening, you better NOT screw with my weekend!!!)

illegal immigrants...driving and education

OK, I'm pretty sure this post is not going to be well received among a few of my readers. But hey, what can I say, we can't always agree on everything. I am posting two links to some articles about allowing illegal immigrants to get special drivers licenses here in the state and another one to allow them to apply at local colleges as resident students as long as they have graduated from a local high school. Now here is where I may angervate (yes that is a word in my dictionary, I'm sure Webster just missed it) a few people. I am all for BOTH of them. Yes I am. If we are going to get illegal immigrants this far north (which we have) I want to make dayem sure they can drive well, and get an education.

Do I actually know some illegals to be saying something such as this? Yes I do. Good friends actually. And guess what folks........They Pay Taxes, just like everyone else. And they will never see a red cent of it back. They DO NOT get free health care, they pay insurance premiums like everyone else, and they can even get a mortgage to Purchase Houses. Imagine that!!

Now if you have issues with this, too bad. Adjust.

Wis. panel backs creation of domestic partnerships

This article pi$$es me off on so many levels. But I'll take it one point at a time.

1. In 2006, we the people of Wisconsin, approved a constitutional amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman and outlawing anything "substantially similar" for gay couples.
By nearly 60%.
(So now you are going to go against what the majority wants. OK typical politics)

2. Would allow couples who register with their county register of deeds to jointly own property, inherit each other's assets and visit each other in the hospital, among other things
(register with the register of deeds? Are you a piece of property now, or what? You can already jointly own property, put someone in your will to inherit and visit each other in the hospital without some law giving you the right to do so!(idiots))

3.One study has estimated between 1,400 and 5,000 same-sex couples in Wisconsin would sign up for the registry in the first year. (that is a mighty big point spread folks. Especially out of the estimated 14,000 gay/lesbian couples in this state.) (So we should override the almost 60% of those who took the time to go out and VOTE IT DOWN, to pander to the possibly 30% who MIGHT register. That is up to 30% of 14,000, people, NOT 30% of the state's voters)

4.Partners would not have to testify against each other in court.
(Sounds more like a "married" couple to me already)

5.The relationships could be ended with a notice of termination. (This is the one that really blew my mind folks! If you want to end the relationship you just send a notice. Divorce isn't that easy, nor is it that CHEAP! You want the benefits of a married couple, without the legal hassles. I THINK NOT!!!)

You want the same rights as married couples??? Then by God, grow a set of balls, and fight for the whole dayem package! Don't you dare try and shove this piece meal down my throat, picking and choosing only the good parts and leaving the rest behind.

Oconto County Homicides

In the last week there has been a double homicide, and what at first appeared to be a fire related death, but is now being investigated as a homicide also, in Oconto County. Now to my copper friends out there, you all know I have nothing but the utmost respect for the law. But, in this case, I really hate to say it, the criminals picked the right county. Oconto County is notorious for being the place to literally get away with murder. It's been that way for years and years. One happened less then 3 miles from here years ago, and to this day, no one has ever been convicted for it. (although pretty much every one in the area knows who did it, without evidence it means nothing) Now I realize it's not a cake walk trying to find enough evidence to bring someone to trial, let alone get a conviction. And it's definitely not a job I would want to do. But if they don't ever arrest someone in either of these crimes, I will not be surprised.

Geske sentenced to 80 years

About freaking time! I wrote about this drunk driver who totaled a car beyond recognition and killed two area teenagers, while driving in excess of 80 mph. I am glad to see justice is finally being served. The families of those kids (young adults) will never get them back, but at least this is one person who won't be killing anyone else.

History revisited

A WWII aircraft was brought to the surface Friday after 60 years at the bottom of Lake Michigan. (now that is really cool)
An SBD Dauntless dive bomber that was lost during training exercises over the lake during World War II was pulled out in Waukegan.
Inch by inch a piece of history emerged from a 60 year slumber in Lake Michigan, and veterans Chuck Downey and Grant Young didn't want to miss this moment.

Imagine being there when that piece of history was lifted out of its watery grave.

cold wet Saturday

Well, it is officially spring. They pulled the first body out of the Fox River yesterday. (article can be found here) They never seem to jump in the winter, maybe they are afraid they will just break something, but still live. We have a couple of great bridges here for jumping off. In fact, one year a lady drove for hours, just to use the Leo Frigo Bridge. One well known story can be found here, involving Trooper Boldt. I am simply amazed the lengths desperate people will go (and they have to be desperate to want to do this) to end their lives. No matter how bad you think you have it, there is always someone worse off then you, living their life to the fullest of their ability. Don't waste the gift you were given. Life is too short already as it is.

Rights? What rights..........

You may have seen me complain on other blogs about our state not allowing concealed carry. We are one of only a couple states that don't allow it. We do however, have the right to carry out in the open. The following article is how you are treated is you choose to exercise that right.

As WISN 12 News was interviewing a West Allis man about his past arrest for carrying a gun in the open, police confronted him again Tuesday night -- one day after the state's attorney general ruled it's legal.
"I'm totally opposed to it. I do not think we need more guns on the streets," state Rep. Leon Young said. (who cares if he is opposed to it, it's perfectly legal here!)
Milwaukee's police chief said he'll go on telling his officers to take down anyone with a firearm despite Van Hollen's finding that people can carry guns openly if they do it peacefully. ( so if you are legally carrying a weapon in the open, expect to kiss the pavement, frequently)

F-16's tracking stolen plane over Wisconsin

Two F-16 fighters were dispatched this afternoon to track a single-engine plane over Wisconsin that was believed stolen in Canada by a student pilot, authorities said.

The incident caused the Wisconsin Capitol in Madison to be evacuated as a precaution.

Jury finds Geske guilty

A jury in Brown County has found 46-year-old Anrietta Geske guilty of 2 counts of 1st Degree Reckless Homicide, 2 counts of Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Motor Vehicle, and 1 count of 1st Degree Reckless Endangerment.

I've been following this case since the accident happened. It angers me when someone gets drunk, then gets behind the wheel of a car. But it sickens me when someone is killed as a direct result of their stupidity.
It may sound like I am totally against drinking. I'm really not. But please, for everyone's sake, do NOT drink and drive.

Public hearing set for Wis. ignition device plan

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The public will get a chance to debate a bill that would require ignition interlock devices in the vehicles of certain drunken drivers.

Early Release likely for state inmates

Our esteemed Governor wants to release nonviolent prison inmates early, to help save the state some money.

Governor Jim Doyle wants nonviolent offenders to be able to get out of jail sooner by earning days off their sentences with good behavior.
What the heck happen to Truth in Sentencing? The law they passed years ago, forcing inmates to serve their whole sentence.

"You go and behave yourself in prison and you do what you are supposed to do, there is actually some incentive for you to do well," Doyle said.
Yep, you couldn't behave well enough to stay the heck out of prison.

"I think the feeling is that if somebody lands in prison or jail, they probably belong there," Brown County District Attorney, John Zakowski, said.
